I’ve read the ads on Craig’s List for years; always wondering who was behind them. Photographer Mark Andrew let’s us know through his project “de-classified: the human condition.”
Through the anonymity of personal advertisements an amazing array and spectrum of human emotions, needs and experiences shows up - love, lust, anger, fantasy, and pain are just the first few to come to mind. The intention of combining the images with the ads hopefully will give the viewer a very intriguing view of each subject. (from the artist’s statement)
This is one of the most fascinating photography exhibits I’ve ever seen, leaving me in a trance of awe and imagination.
It must be quite difficult to do something like this without (actually or seeming to be) mocking the subjects (as some of the commenters do) who are often in search of things that most “normal” people wouldn’t like to be seen seeking.
It’s also a challenge to keep from putting the subjects on a pedestal.
These aren’t heros. They’re regular people with needs and/or desires.
It’s easy to get distracted by what is is they are seeking. What is remarkable is that they are seeking and are so open about it.
